HI RON GREAT to see such a fabulous COLLECTION. I notice that it consists mainly EARLY AMERICA. LUCKILY here in AUSTRALIA we had TELEPHONES from most of the MAJOR COUNTRIES With the emphasis on SWEDISH ERICSSON which seem to be the MOST DESIRABLE to the SERIOUS COLLECTOR. Still ADMIRE the AMERICAN TELEPHONES which were installed in LARGE No's. MAINLY around WW1 & WW2. our first AUTO EXCHANGE was installed in GEELONG VICTORIA AUSTRALIA in 1912 using "STROWGER" EQUIPMENT. I am very large collector of TELEPHONES (around 700) But I really haven't got what U have!!!!!!

Like your website; whan I was a kid, we had a square "1937" model you show, sans dial; pick it up and "Operator;number ple-uz" 5 lbs. You could anchor a BOAT with that thing! I now have the same style with a dial; Sometimes I get a hum on the line out here in "Dogpatch", which the phone co. can't seem to cure. Plug 'er in, and NEVER get a hum;about 60 years old and works better than the new ones! I also have a "1928" one like you show, but has a TWO-piece base; round like that one, not oval, like many, but the piece on which the handset rests is a separate piece. I wonder if it wasn't a "canlestick" base, one of a bunch left over from when Western Electric introduced the new model, and made the piece for the handset until they were used up, then introduced the oval base ? I once had an oval base one, years ago, but didn't know if the base was 1 or 2 pieces. It was one of the stolen items whan my house was broken into; the theif even stole the bell box! The current phone has a "Z" over the word "operator" above the "0", and makes a nice loud "tick -tick - tick " when you dial the number. It DID work, but the handset cord (rubber insulated;not original)is shot; it has the original cloth-insulated wall cord. I wish I could find an original-style handset cord! My friend sold his mother's old house in Virginia, and retreived the old metal bell box for me. I remember in '65, when my town of Weymouth,MA and neighboring Randolph (or Holbrook) were the 1st 2 towns in the country to get Touch-tone service. The original phone had only 10 buttons; no * or # button. Any ides on where to get a hanset cord ? Keep up the good work! Thanks! Peace -------------------------------------------Mike Burke.

My Dad is a retiree, 37 yrs w/ Bell Labs in NJ, had a R&D Lab in Communications, developed projects such as Telestar Satellite Rec. Station, 1960 or 61 , Maine. He's currently giving me objects of his life long trade to sell on eBay, and I came here to research a 1927 Stromberg Carlson dial-less desk set. I didn't find anything on it here, but love your site and shall bookmark and return. I have a boxful of early glass radio vacuum tubes to research too. Love the Lab photos you offer and have printed the thumbnail view of the page to show him. Now if only he had a garage full of these beauties!- Wouldn't we be thrilled!

Interested in the history of cable splicers. I am currently employed here in Pasadena for PacBell and I am a splicer. Its very interesting comming across old lead cable and chipping the lead sleave, cracking it open and seeing the craftsmanship that a splicer from 85 years before had made. I'm interested in old pictures of the past, especially her in Pasadena that take me on a journey with pride and love of my job. Great site.

Hi Ron, Nice to see you again. Hope we were as helpfull as we used to be, but the volume has ramped up. Nice site, the Java applet for the Kellog desk phone is a little lurchy though. This is the current state of antique telephony, the Internet; soon to be history too. Wonder what the next version will be? Regards, Gary...
