Hi - I ran into while surfing for a website on vintage electronic equipment I'm trying to identify .. looking of anything close to a MEMOREX MUSEUM website .. I've enjoyed the tour and emailed website to a couple of friends. If you're aware of such, don't hesitate to email. Again, thanks for the tour .. I smiled all the way through.

Began my Bell System career in Hammond Indiana as a Residential Installer for Illinois Bell Tel Co on 11/11/1968 Right after the "BIG ONE" (Lest we forget 5-8-68) In 1976 Illinois Bell Tel sold their country cousins (indiana district) to Indiana Bell Tel Co, we then became those Dam Northern'ers. At divestiture, I went with AT&T, spent three years at US Steel in Gary Indiana, then a short stint on the 25th floor at 10 S. Canal in Chicago, before transferring to Mesa Az in 1987. Am currently working in AT&T's National AMA Control Center in Mesa. Our center is where the buck starts. We collect 100% of all toll data generated anywhere in the world. God Bless the Bell System, someone had better! Keep up the good work.

I just moved into an apartment bldg. built in 1925 and there's an old wall phone (with a built-in pull-out seat for lazy conversations)that still operates via the downstairs front door buzzer. Well, the name on the set reads "Made in the U.S.A. by the S.H. Couch Company Norfolf Downs, Mass." When I entered the "S.H. Couch" words into an online search it brought me to your site...rather fascinating. I wish the mouthpiece (or sound for that matter!) still worked on our wall phone/intercom. Nice site.

Par excellent site..... I started with Automatic Electric Co.(1954) sole suppliers to GTE (later to merge) & spent first years in the factory (Manual Switchboards). Assembled 100 & 200 line PABX's as well as Type 30 & 31 Toll boards, Upper Toll Test panels, and numerous small test sets. We moved the Chicago facilities to a massive Northlake, Il facility in 1957. The decline & fall of the GTE/AECo. empire came to an end in about 1980 when GTE chose to rid itself of all manufacturing.. in 78-79. This included the closure of plants in Canada, Calif, Wisconson, Italy, and Belgium. The reminent shell is now under Lucent & called AG Communications located in Phoenix. Unfortunately, history of Automatic Electric Co.& it's contribution to telephony is lost forever. Anybody have a pix of a Type 31 Toll Board?

Ron, I've been watching your evolution since 1974 when we first met. I am astounded at the growth and success you have displayed over the years since then. From doing repairs on conventional telephones and restoring the old wood and brass beauties, you have grown to have this Internet site and created a world-wide online business that you can be proud of. Keep up the good work, Ron. From an old friend.

I find your display and information of telephones most interesting!. I have on my wall the telephone my grandparents used on their farm in northwest Missouri from the early part of the 20th century until in the 1940s. It is large (measures 32inches), wooden, with a large ringer box at the top, a shelf and the battery(?) box on the bottom. As a child (I am now 74 yrs) I remember hearing the different rings - on the farm line installed by my grandfather there were several neighboring farmers on the same line - each had a different 'ring'. My grandparents ring was a long, a short, a long. Their number was three digits. Also there was a switch that could be engaged so that a person could listen to other parties' calls and not be heard! No doubt that was how neighborhood news was passed around!

My Greatgrandfather started a telephone company in Westfield,NY in the late 1890's. It stayed in the family until just over ayear ago. My paternal grandfather started a telephone collection which, with my father's encouragement, I expanded. It is still in the coompany offices how. There is the 1905 Strowger dial, acouple early Stromberg-Carlson switchboards, and approximately 100 other phones. I also have some old phones myself, including some early payphones.

This is all remarkable. I never put a lot of thought into telephones and all the differnt types there are, or what they used to look like, or the history behinde our little comunication friend.

Although your collection is a little beyond my expertise, I must say that you indeed have some very unique pieces of history. It is a shame that the average person doesn't have the faintest idea what collecting phone equipment is all about. Good luck and keep up the good work. Sincerely, Robert A.Bilotta

My dad Joseph worked for New York telephone for 37 years and then AT&T for about 2, retiring in 1984. I cannot wait to show him these pages! My wife and I purchased a Bell Telephone logo at Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mi and gave i to him for his last birthday. He got a huge kick out of that, so I know he'll love this virtual museum.

I never have seen such a large collection of telephones, they are great. I have been interested in telephones since I was able to talk, I can remember when my Daddy had to repair the mouth part of our phone with some airplane cement glue after phone had been accidentally broken, that was the first time I ever saw the inside of any part of phone. I have lived in Athens,Ga. since birth, Athens Ga. was the last city in the state of Ga. to go over to the dial system, I was in High School in 1957, the year the system changed over, it changed over at midnight, I stayed up to be among the first to try out the new system.I have a small collection of old phones, sometimes I show them off to my friends. Thanks for letting me add to your guest book. Frank Bowden

I'm looking for the switchboard that my grandmother used when she was a telephone operator in Gruver, Texas in the 1930's. Later she was transferred to Amarillo, Texas. I've been told that the switchboard is part of a traveling exhibit.

Very nice site! Ca. 1975 I worked for an aftermarket phone mfg. company that made legacy parts, among other things. In order to test their products, they had a working Strowger system installed in (and filling!) a back room. It was fascinating to watch. (One of their products you no doubt have seen: a special curved abrasive cloth cleaner for the Strowger contacts.) Btw, I got here via a short piece on the NYTimes website.
