I was raised in Schulter (41 years old now) I hated growing up there. Nothing to do etc. I moved not long after graduating. I joined the Army to get out of here, went Department of Defense and worked for them for 18 years. I came home from Okinawa, Japan in January 1997. On the return flight a strange feeling came over me, I knew I needed to return home. Upon return to Okinawa I started preparing for my return. Here I am 23 years after telling the world I hated Schulter Oklahoma enjoying being with friends and family. I enjoyed your site. Thanks.

Mr. Christianson, I am impressed with your web site, knowledge of this sort is hard to find. I work for Citizens Telephone Co. Inc. of Leslie, Ga. We are a fair sized independent company. The owner/president owns the Georgia Rural Telephone Museum housed across the street in a renovated turn of the century cotton warehouse. We have over 2,000 telephones and a large collection of telephone memorabilia. As I am one of the tour guides, I am always looking for info and interesting stories about the phones. If you know of any reference material you think would be handy, please feel free to let me know. Helen Killcrease Georgia Rural Telephone Museum

I've got to say that your telephone display is one of the best things I've ever seen at any telecommunication event (and I have been to lots!) Hi, I am a beginning communication student in the Netherlands and I have a project in which I would like to use a picture of the 1885 Wood Cradle Desk Telephone. The project is that we have to make our own website in which we present ourselves. Is it possible to use this picture, or is there some sort of copyright on this picture that makes this impossible. Hope to hear from you soon,

Hi. Great site. Read about it in New York Times article 10/7/99. Nice to see how well organized the information is, great to read what others think, don't see that often at sites. I've been interested in Insulators for more than 30 years. One thing I use to do in New England was walk old telephone rights of way, looking for chestnut telephone poles. Then the base of the pole. in about 1910-20 many of the smaller lines were combined and poles were cut down, and left to lie in cow pastures. All the insulators were taken off the poles and buried at the base of the poles, a few feet deep so the farmers cows would be safe and if the maintenance people ever needed a spare insulator they knew where to find them. In the 1970's I dug alot of Am Tel and Tel insulators from around the bases of the old chestnut poles. I think the old phones look great next to the old insulators. Well enough bragging for now. Hope there is a new candlestick around the next corner for you. Thanks for the value you bring through this site. Bill P

HI! Glad to know we're neighbors (well, sort of anyway). I have a fully-refurbished Westinghouse model 302, date stamped 3/34 on the inside. We use it as one of our regular phones, and I love the way it rings with that loud "double bell" ring... you can hear it all the way in the back yard! I bought it at a junk shop for $15, and a freind helped me polish it up and install new cords for another $10. It now resides in a place of honor; on my 1930's mahogany 7-drawer writing desk next to my 1924 Royal typewriter! Taking a tour of your online museum was great. It's nice to know that there are people out there who appreciate these items that only a few years ago were looked upon as junk. Please keep up the good work, and I hope one day I can see your collection in person! Nick Choy Portland, OR

For some strange reason I started to get interested in antique phones. I find fasinating how in todays technology you can still connect these old phones to regular POTS lines. I enjoy cleaning these and actually having them work. Today, I only own two antique phones. I owen a phone from the 50's and a wood wallset phone from 1907 that I'm trying to get working but have no success. There is a lot that I don't know however, I'm getting books about how to repair and maintaine these phones. Now, everytime I go to an antique store, I look for these types of phones. My main objective is to collect various types of phones and place them in every part of my house.(But actually working).

These are models of the telephone instruments Professor Bell demonstrated at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in June 1876, which soon led to the rapid acceptance of the reality of telephone. I live in Denver and just received a box of antique telephones from my parents in Oklahoma. My grandmother was a telephone operator in the 1930's in Schulter, Oklahoma (a very small town). When the telephone office was closed, my grandmother kept some of the phones. Now I have them! I have enjoyed your web site, which is very informative and fun. I am in the process of trying to identify my phones. I believe one of them is similar to the 1879 Top Box Viaduct Hardware phone that you pictured. Is there any definitive way to identify it? I have another one that I think is a Federal Standard desk type phone, no. 720-M. (or it is at least similar to one I have seen pictured) The desk type phone is engraved around the mouthpiece with "Patented in 1901, 1907 and 1909" If you have further information on these two phones, or anything that would help me identify my phones, I would love to hear from you. Thank you. Lori March, Denver, Colorado

Ron, We recently acquired a wall phone made by Kellogg. Although, it's missing the bells on the outside the remainder is in excellent condition, including the connecting cord and the receiver cord. There are 2 dates on the door latch on the inside where the outside door connects with a screw closure. May 1907 and April 1913. Could you give us some idea about these dates and the value of our newly acquired treasure. We would also like to locate the correct bells for the phone. Look forward to hearing from you. Larry.

I have recently taken an oak box 1921 GE phone off the wall because it now has to be all punch numbers to talk to anyone and it costs more to have an old dial. I have had it for several years and only because I like antiques. I used to work for BC Tel in Nanaimo and was on the old switchboards at that time. Yes they had long and short rings to each phone. I was on the board the morning of VE Day and that was exciting. We only answeredcalls, plugged them in to whatever they wanted, whether anyone was on the line or not. The entire boards were full, we started at one end and went to the other and people were talking to people that they had never met or talked to before. We reakky had few complaints for all that. It was exciting, horns were blowing, boats were whistling and people were all excited.. a day in the life of an old tele operator. Good luck with your collection. Val

We found your site after reading the May 99 issue of Country Living. I too have a telephone interest; I currently design phone systems for 9-1-1 Dispatch Centers. I have started a collection of phones that were around when I was a child. It started with my father's WE 3502 (my oldest item so far). Then I got an Ericofon just like the one my dad used at home (and used illegally on the Bell system in the 60's). For you these are probably rather modern, but for me they bring back memories. Great web site. Perhaps you could add photos/info on your more modern (thru the 40's) sets. Thanks.

Where might I find a copy of the "Bell System Standards"? I am currently training a new employee and it would be so much better if I could site the Bell Systems Standards and have a copy of it onhand. But the bad thing about Ma Bell is that they never let us know how they work. what kind of switches they use, how they route them. Ron, I am sure we will be able to use one or more of your remarkable photos in our documentary. Again! "Kittyhawk to Computers" is the true story of Norme D. Frost, born 1896, Saginaw MI. alive and well in 1999 in Tryon N.C. He was born before electricity or indoor plumbing were available in the home. He has lived to see the technical revolution in its entirety and spends most of his waking hours in front of his Windows 98 driven Compaq computer. We have conducted an extensive archival search for photos that capture significant changes in communication across the twentieth century. Your photos eclipse any we have seen regarding early telephonic devices. On behalf of Norme D. Frost, a pioneer himself, we thank you. Proper credit will be given you in the photo credit section of our documentary.

I work for BellSouth and just thought you may find it interesting to know that occcasionally on a trouble call I will run across an antiquated piece of equipment in someone's home. Hi Ron Just found your site. One of the men who works with me put me on to it. I am a Installation/Repair Manager for Southwestern Bell. I am also a antique Telephone collector. I am originally from Seattle Washington so might look you up when I come up that way to visit my kinfolk. Thanks for a great read. Dave Gruger

hi Ron, I'm impressed. When I get smart enough to manipulate my way around the web, etc, I'll try to come up with something similar. Mike in St. Louis
