Fun page. It is neat to see the different phones. When I was young all the phones were leased by MA BELL, so not much variety. But a few radicals had some off brand phones secretly hooked up in their basements. Thanks.

Greetings, all... Have been a member of both ATCA (#564)and TCI for decades, and am delighted to have found this exciting and educational museum site. Although I've always been interested in electrical and electronic matters, and have been building and repairing electrical toys for nieces & nephews - and grandnieces & grandnephews - for two decades (hence my screen name "unclefixit", it was during my 22-year career with New York Telephone as an ESS technician that my interest in antique phones developed and grew. My idea of a dream vacation is visiting every telephone museum in North America; I've already been to the TPA exhibit in Richmond, VA, and look forward to discovering that Tauck Tours or Elderhostel has organized something along these lines, saving me the trouble of doing so myself. Shortly after accepting NY Telco's buyout at the end of '91 I became a volunteer instructor for SeniorNet, teaching seniors of 55+ the basics of computers using MS 95 and MS Works. My current workshop project is converting 3-1/2" floppy disks into desk clocks by adding quartz movements, and plastic drawer-pull handles for support... they make great gifts, and superb door prizes at our computer users' group meetings!

I am also an ex- telephone PBX Installer. I worked out of the Beverly Hills office back in the late seventies and early eighties, pushing a cart around to all the buildings in Beverly Hills. At times I was loaned out to a truck route in Beverly Hills - some great stories there. I am now a Producer/Director/Writer in television/film. I am concentrating on feature films right now. In 1993 I wrote a movie titled: "L.A. GODDESS." It's handled now by Blockbusters Video. Question, for anyone; when did spiral cords for receivers first come into effect? Let me know at my e-mail address. And if anyone is interested in the film business, get in touch, otherwise, I'll see you in the movies.

AWESOME!! Brought back memories of the old crank phone on the wall in the dining room at my uncle's cattle ranch in the Sandhills. I even knew how to use it at about eight years old, what a blast. I also worked as a long distance operator for Bell Telephone in Boulder, Colorado while I was a student at the University. It was interesting, but I had the graveyard shift. I hired out with Ohio Bell in April 1946 after being discharged from the Air Force. My first job was routine maintance on an old manual switchboard. At this late date, our town ( Findlay Ohio ) Still had a manual board. I had about 200 operater headsets to maintaine. These had breast plates, with the ear piece seperate. The operators would get water in them when getting a drink, thus putting them temperarily out of order. During my 35 years with the company, I watched these sets upgraded three times. Each time. the old sets were discarded. Sorry to say, I haven't saved any. I have enjoyed your web pages more than any other. Thank you so so much. Billnelsie@aol.com

Your web-page makes a great juxtaposition between the old and cyberspace. I enjoyed seeing your collection of old phones and I do recall seeing some of them "in person" when I was a kid growing up in upstate N.Y. in a small town called Tivoli. In fact, the old Bailey Hotel had a phone very similiar to one of the wall phones you show. I still remember having to "crank" the lever on the side to get the operator. Great memories and a wonderful site. Thank you Ginny Meyer Colorado Springs, CO.

Sorry but I speak bad english.

Knocking the dust off of my very small collection has rekindled my interest. Kudo's to you and your fine page. I'll be a member of ACTA when they get my check and they accept another oldphone guy. I'm trying to develop a "start to 1970's" collection of WE stuff as I started with South Central Bell Telephone in 1972.. I too have a few that I actually took out of service and "junked" with permission of my supv's at the time. Again great photos and I can tell lots of hardwork...great job!

Found the site interesting. My family had an independent telephone company when I was a child. I grew up and married a man who worked 35 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He is a charter inductee of the Kansas Telephone Hall of Fame. I guess telephones are in my blood!

Ron, You have done an excellent job. The site is nicely layed out, crisp and has great information. I have placed a link to it from the Telephone History Web Site. You have also inspired me to provide additional photographs of telephones on my page. These are now located on my museum page.

George and Ron: Great site, it's interesting and visually pleasing. The photos load very fast on my new 233 pentium. Ron, the story about how you got the phones is touching but did you get in trouble for taking company property home? Your love for antique phones and your repairs on my old phone has turned me into a phone collector also. Thanks, Rita

Ron, your home page width on my Netscape Navigator Pro v4.04 is about one-half inch wider than my screen. Whereas, this form and the guest book page is just right. Please chech your html as pages that are just a bit wider than the screen are mucho annoying!

Great looking web site! Maybe someday someone will do the same kind of museum about old computers. I especially like the Bell Liquid Thansmitter. I wonder how that particular transmitter ended up in Eugene, Oregon? That history would be interesting in itself. Best of Luck!
